What’s Holding You Back? Let It Go to Thrive in the New Year

Published on 12 December 2024 at 14:30

ForevaBlack family, what is going on? In today’s post, we will talk about letting go of things that may be delaying or hindering us. Letting go of the things you need to, and what you are used to is hard to do, it is uncomfortable. In 2024, I have had to let go of multiple things. I had to let go of some people around me, some toxic behaviors, and mindsets. Trust me, I completely understand not wanting to let go. There is so much freedom in letting go of things and letting them be, everything is not meant for you to hold onto. Letting go does not always mean a person, it could be a job, a substance (alcohol or marijuana), places, etc.

Have you ever thought sometimes why do I keep getting the same result in this area of my life? Why does it never get better? Sit down and think, am I still trying it with this person who is not good for me? Am I allowing my friends or peers to influence me? What is holding you back from where you need to go? At some point in our lives, we must do what is right... even if it does not feel good. I want to talk about an example from the Bible that I love, that has been helping me not hold onto things that are behind me and no longer serving me. In the Bible, in Genesis 19, God sent angels to deliver Lot’s family from destruction in Sodom and Gomorrah. God’s ONLY instruction was for them to NOT LOOK BACK, and what did Lot’s wife decide to do? She looked back, even though God promised to take them away from destruction and that he was leading them the right way. All she had to do was follow instructions and trust God, but she didn’t... she looked back, and guess what? She was turned into a pillar of salt for still being focused on the place that was no longer for her.

Two things you should always learn from this; trust God when he is speaking something to you, know that what He says is what He means... He is only trying to protect us. And secondly, holding onto and reminiscing on the past can do more damage than moving forward. Lot’s wife story is a powerful reminder that holding onto what is behind us can completely stop what He is trying to do in our lives.

As we enter 2025, reflect on what areas of your life you’re still “looking back” or holding onto. No matter what it may be, LET GO! It is only hindering you from your next level of success, and it is keeping you from thriving. You never want to learn the hard way, and not saying moving forward will be easy... but it will be so worth it in the long run. Here are some things you can do to help you with this struggle and fear of letting go; identify what is holding you back, pray for strength and clarity, replace what you are releasing (ex: letting go of fear, replace that with faith), and most importantly, commit to moving forward.

I want 2025 to be a fresh start for us all, I want us to start it off on a positive note. Be committed to this next season of your life. Remember God does not want to see us still stagnant and not growing; He did not design for life to be this way for us. I love you my ForevaBlack family, God is bringing us into our Promise Land, and we cannot get there, if we are still focused on Egypt.

I absolutely love this post! Letting go & wanting change is good. I had to learn that without change how can we expect to grow? God is always so promising and his plans have and always will be better than our own. Continue to speak life into others but most importantly yourself sweet girl. You are amazing💜 .
